Aqidah is derived from the word al-aqdu, which in etymology means ash-syaddu (binding), ar-babtu (bond), and al-itsaaqu. (contracting), ats-tsubut (choosing), and al-ihkam (strengthening). Aqidah is another word for wisdom that instructs people about. Every everyone in the world needs to subscribe to this certain belief. The first pillar of faith is having faith in Allah SWT. Unbelievers are people who do not adhere to the fundamental principles of faith. Aqidah is the phrase for the belief that firm and certain that there is absolutely no room for doubt for those who accept it.

Another definition is that aqidah is anything that is required. in order for the heart and spirit to be at peace as a result, become a concrete and solid reality that is free from uncertainty. In other words, a firm belief must be in line with reality and must not leave the believer with any room for doubt.

Aqidah Islamiyah is thus a firm belief in Allah SWT manifested in the performance of the monotheistic duty to Him, in His Angels, His Messengers, the Day of Judgment, and in good and bad destiny. As well as believing in all that has been proven to be true regarding religious ideas (ushuluddin).

It is clear from the vocabulary that aqidah must be binding, certain, strong, hard, and sure. Similarly, aqidah is not something to doubt; it is simply bias. If you don’t attain a firm level of belief, then it isn’t aqidah, thus you must be very certain of yourself.

Aqidah is the name given because the adherent ties his heart to it. A Muslim should therefore understand which aqidah is true and which is untrue. Because it will also produce devastation in this world or the hereafter if his belief is higher than the incorrect belief or incorrect aqidah.
